Halo 5 gets campaign demo at E3

Microsoft’s E3 2015 press conference begun today by premiering new Halo 5 campaign and multiplayer footage, and a gameplay demo of the campaign from Agent Locke’s perspective. The gameplay demo was accompanied by a story trailer, showing further depth into themes of the game, and Fireteam Osiris.

The demo begins with a Story trailer, setting up the premise for the game. The trailer is compiled of pre-rendered cutscenes, which recap previous Halo events, and the themes explored in Hunt the Truth.

The live demo begins with Fireteam Osiris being dropped from a carrier, into a Covenant stronghold. They have received Intel that the Master Chief is located inside, therefore the fireteam must progress, and infiltrate the facility. The buildings are in ruins, with many Covenant dead, or seriously wounded on the courtyard floor. Many holograms and other technologies are located on the map, however damaged or broken. To search for clues during the mission, the Artemis is used, which is attached to Agent Locke’s wrist. The pad allows the user to search for information, in order to progress through the level.

Once the facility is entered, a Guardian can be seen in the distance. It releases a shockwave/EMP pulse and knocks the Covenant carriers out of the sky. A phantom flies into a nearby building, which begins to collapse, and changes the terrain of the map. The map continues to collapse, as the fireteam run to the next sound structure. The team then encounter Prometheans, which are set to make a return in Halo 5: Guardians. The new Promethean soldier makes an appearance as well as a new unidentified Promethean, who looks to be a new unique character.
