Update: Halo Wars 2 won’t be getting a physical release outside of Europe for PC.
343 Industries studio head Dan Ayoub confirmed that Halo Wars 2 will not support cross-platform play. As you know, Halo Wars 2 is coming out on Xbox One and Windows 10. Both games are getting proper physical releases everywhere. The fact that they don’t support cross-play is odd given the nature of the game.
In an interview with Eurogamer, Ayoub said, “Cross-play is something we were looking at early on in development,” and continued, “We’ve been in development since 2014. But as we looked at our timing and our design decisions, we focused on some different things that basically became Xbox Play Anywhere.”
Although Halo Wars 2 will not support cross-play, Ayoub said that it may be something they look into for future Halo Wars titles. We hope that’s the in Halo Wars 3 if the game does well.
