Neverwinter, the incredibly popular free-to-play role-playing game, now has over 1.6 million players on Xbox One. It’s become the console’s top free-to-play game this year. Perfect World Entertainment and Cryptic Studios announced these statistics today while also announcing five free expansions to celebrate this milestone. The free expansions will arrive on Xbox One before the end of this year and feature the Tyranny of Dragons and Elemental Evil storylines.
What’s surprising is that Neverwinter managed to attract 1.6 million players in just five weeks. That’s quite an achievement and a testament to the fact that quality free-to-play titles always find an audience. I’ve been playing the game since launch and never once have I felt that I couldn’t progress further without buying in-game currency. That’s the way free-to-play games should be. I think I’m actually going to support this game by purchasing additional content because of the way the developers have chosen to handle the microtransactions. It’s fair which is why I highly recommend the title.
