Details about the release of the New Xbox One Experience and backwards compatibility have been posted on Major Nelson’s website. Starting at 3:01 am ET/12:01 am PT on November 12th the NXOE will begin to roll out globally, followed by backwards compatibility which will begin to roll out twelve hours later at 3:01 pm ET/12:01 pm (noon) PT.
If your console is in Instant-on power mode, your Xbox One will automatically update to the NXOE in the background. Because it is a global rolling launch, your console will update at various times throughout the day depending on your timezone.
If your console is in Energy-saving mode, you will need to manually initiate the download process for the update by going to Settings – System to check if an update is available, and then choose “Update Now”.
All Xbox One consoles will receive a prompt for a mandatory update on November 23rd if you have not updated by that time.
Backwards compatibility will begin to roll out at 12:01 pm PT regardless of when you receive the NXOE system update. Just refresh your Game Collection and you will see your pre-purchased digital Xbox 360 titles ready to install. You can also insert the disc if you own a physical copy. Games must be on the list of supported backwards compatible titles for you to be able to play them.
