Multiplayer footage from Microsoft’s Phantom Dust reboot was just leaked by someone close to the project. The title was being developed by Darkside Games before the studio shut down last month. Now, Kotaku has leaked footage from “a source who worked on the game” that showcases some truly spectacular gameplay.
Despite the closure of Darkside Games, Microsoft confirms that development is underway at a different studio. The company will share more details about the game closer to release. The video shows two players battling it out using a variety of abilities. The environment is also fully destructible and crumbles around the players when it is damaged. It can be used as a weapon. This footage also obviously confirms the existence of a multiplayer mode.
Phantom Dust is an Xbox One reboot of a 2005 title with the same name. According to the source, the plan was to make the reboot “70% original game and 30% new.” The source added, “Over time that turned into remake Phantom Dust, so that was our goal for the last half of development. We were going to update and streamline a very dated game (especially their menu system and horribly paced single player), but otherwise it was going to be a reboot/remake. I’d say we were probably trending towards an 85% remake, 15% new.”
The gameplay looks amazing and we hope the new studio builds upon this and makes it even better. Phantom Dust will be a great title judging from Microsoft’s plan for the remake. We can’t wait to play this one and hopefully it’ll be out this year.
