Gaming social network Overdog gets massive update, adds features like groups and curated messages

Overdog, the social networking service to find gamers to play with, just got a massive update. A multitude of new features like Groups, Quick Actions, and Curated Messages are now available on the service. It’s great that the developers took the time to incorporate the feedback they received from the community. You can read about all the changes below.

Hey /r/XboxOne,

We did it reddit! Thanks to all of your feedback over the last several weeks, we recently released ‘Overdog 2.0’ which includes some of the most requested features and provides some key updates to build a stronger community in-app.

Since we first arrived on the Xbox One, we have been compiling a ton of user feedback, requests, concerns, and suggestions. With this update, we can wholeheartedly say that this is the ‘User Feedback Update’.

To see what I mean, here is the list of new features you requested and will now see in-app:

Groups: Looking for people to play SMITE with at any given moment? How about other /r/XboxOne community members? What about only people in your time zone? Boom! Every type of group now has its own micro-community in Overdog. Matchmake together at any time! Got any Groups you’d like to see in-app? Let us know below.

Curated Messaging: See someone who looks interesting, but don’t want to type out a long message? Don’t worry about it, we got you covered. Create messages on the fly with the press of a button. No more typing! cue happy dance

Quick Actions: Want to ‘like’, ‘unlike’, ‘add’, ‘remove’, ‘join’, or ‘leave’ an Interest, Game, or Group with one press of a button? Done, done, done, done, done, and done. Using just the X and Y buttons, you can now do all of the things!

User Profiles: Can’t tell if that user is online? Want to know what someone is doing at that moment? Want to know all of the games that someone has been playing recently? Karate-chop those. Online status, rich presence, and three games are now on all profiles. Minds are exploding.

Weekly Events: We’ve ramped up our in-app events with communities like /r/XboxOne, Dads Gaming, /r/Halo, and Girl Tribe Gaming to bring users an average of 15 events each week. We also put on larger monthly events like the ‘Zombie Pro-Am’ this Friday. Video for moar info.

Global Expansion: We recently released in Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland, but are eyeing several other countries for the coming months. Leave us a note – in your native tongue if you want to get fancy – with where you’d like to see us go live next. Wie sagt man ‘camper’?

Thank you again for all your help so far. We have a good idea where we should be taking the app given all the feedback, but if you think we may be missing something integral to your Xbox One experience, please leave a comment here and we will get back to you shortly. Everything helps when developing a product for all gamers, not just a subset of them, so speak your mind.

We are excited to get this update in your hands and hear what you think about it, what we could do better, and what direction you want to see the app head in. Any and all comments, questions, concerns, or complaints are appreciated.

If you are interested in helping mold the future of Overdog, please join our fledgling subreddit where we take requests for what to add to the app, show off where we are going with development, and continue to listen to what you – our community – has to say.

See you online, in-app, and in-game,

The Overdog Team
