Crytek hasn’t paid employees in weeks according to numerous complaints

According to several Crytek employees, the company hasn’t paid them in over a month. Crytek has a history of nonpayment and given the number of people addressing this concern, I think it’s valid. According to Polygon, the complaints have appeared on social media and have spread through Reddit, all alleging delays and irregularities in meeting payroll over the past six months. So not only have they not been paid for at least a month, there were irregularities beforehand. Some people are saying that they haven’t been paid for two months and that their previous paychecks were delayed by up to four weeks.

A few years ago the head of the developer said that they weren’t making payroll because they were trying to avoid bankruptcy. However, from what I understood that issue was fixed months ago. I guess Crytek isn’t on stable financial footing again. That makes sense because they haven’t really released anything that has truly captivated gamers in a long time. One could argue that Ryse: Son of Rome was their last major release and it didn’t really live up to expectations due to its short length.

I hope Crytek figures it out and pays the developers. I can’t stress how hard it is to go about your daily life when you haven’t been paid. Many developers don’t have substantial savings which they can count on given the volatile nature of the video game industry. Not everyone is working for Bethesda or Rockstar Games. Just paying the rent and buying food can become difficult. I’ve heard of stories where developers have to choose between meals and even paying phone bills. That’s unfair. No one who works so hard should have to suffer like that. It’s just wrong. I hope everything works out and Crytek figures it out because so far everything sounds like empty promises.
