Microsoft have just released their Q3 2017 fiscal report which, to no surprise, is up from the same quarter in 2016. With a total of $22.1 billion in revenue, Microsoft made a substantial $4.8 billion in net profit.
Microsoft’s recent acquisition of the social network LinkedIn proved to be another successful venture for the company bringing in $975 million in revenue. While many had their doubts about Microsoft acquiring the service, it seems to have done very well for them this quarter.
Microsoft Office and Microsoft’s heavily advertised cloud service, Azure, have continued to be a great success. The company’s revenue always succeeds thanks to these two services and this year is no different with office commercial products and cloud services with revenue being increased by 15%.
The Xbox brand is also going strong. Microsoft’s entire gaming revenue has increased by 4% by growth in Xbox Live—no doubt helped by the new Xbox Play Anywhere system—and Xbox software and services revenue is up by 7%. Xbox Live active users grew to 52 million from last year but decreased by 3 million from the last holiday quarter which was filled with hard-hitting game releases.
One of Microsoft’s falls this quarter however, is the Surface brand. The entire brand has fallen by a total of 26% but Microsoft’s Windows OEM revenue is at least helping the situation with a 5% boost over last year as well as a 6% increase in all Windows commercial products.
Windows Phone is, as we all expected, not doing so hot. With revenue dropping by a massive $730 million, the mobile brand is falling quite hard. Microsoft haven’t spoken much about future plans for their mobile brand, but it wouldn’t be a stretch to imagine them dropping it all together.
