With the full reveal of Project Scorpio a couple short months away, Phil Spencer spoke about third-party games running on the console in recent interviews. In the almost twenty-minute interview below with Xbox On, Spencer said that the “best console versions of third-party games are showing up” on Project Scorpio even this early on in development.
In another interview, this time with Microsoft News Center, Spencer spoke about the importance of innovations and first-party studios taking more risks.
“I think the work we do in our first-party studios should be a beacon of innovation for how our platform is being used,” Spencer said. “I like our first-party studios taking risks and trying new things. You see Gears of War doing cross-play between Windows and Xbox, and Minecraft connecting players on iOS, Android, Xbox and Windows, and its coming to Switch. It’s even on virtual reality devices. That’s the role I think our first-party studios should play – trying to be innovative.”
Teasing some E3 announcements and how games will run on Scorpio, Spencer said, “It’s about the breadth of games we are seeing on Xbox. I want to spend the time on stage (at E3) showing how great first-party and third-party games are going to look on Scorpio, as I truly believe the best versions of games will be running on it.”
Microsoft’s E3 press conference is scheduled for Sunday, June 11 at 2PM PT.
