Tekken 7 won’t feature cross-play on Xbox One due to Sony’s duplicitous policy

Update: Bandai Namco confirmed there won’t be any cross-play in Tekken 7. Due to Sony’s strange policy, it seems like it’s not worth it for the developers to even code such a system.

It seems that Sony is at it again. I don’t know if Tekken 7 will feature cross-play between PlayStation 4 and PC but it won’t between all three systems or between Xbox One and PC. This is due to Sony’s nonsensical “security policy”. Tekken 7 uses P2P connections and Sony won’t allow their ecosystem to interact with Xbox One, or PC servers which also interact with Xbox One. Considering that Microsoft’s servers are more secure than Sony’s, that’s a joke. Katsuhiro Harada revealed this on Twitter.

it’s NOT my heart & our issue.
It’s 1st Party issue & platform security policy issue.

With their security policy P2P can not be used between 3 platforms(Can’t split PC ver).
Don’t ask me. ASK 1st party.

Microsoft allows cross-play between three systems as was evidenced by the fact that Rocket League developers said the ball was in Sony’s court many months ago. If Sony didn’t have archaic policies that supposedly “protect users”, then it could’ve happened. To me it just seems like a cheap tactic to deny players a larger pool to match with. It’s funny how Sony is using security as an excuse here when they get hacked on a regular basis. I can understand the fact that they don’t want PlayStation 4 players interacting with Xbox One players, but the fact that they won’t allow the Tekken 7 team to enable cross-play between PlayStation 4 and PC if they enable cross-play with Xbox One and PC is bizarre and shameful. Splitting PC servers between two consoles shouldn’t be a problem. This has to be one of the most anti-consumer policies in the entire gaming industry and I feel it’ll get worse as the years go by. What do you think about this? Let us know.
