Xbox app for Windows 10 set to receive monthly updates

Microsoft has been targeting more rapid deployment of updates for virtually all their software. Xbox Music had committed bi-monthly updates for quite some time, Patch Tuesday is a long time staple of monthly Windows updates and most prolifically, the Xbox One itself receives huge feature patches every month.

Microsoft looks set to continue this trend with its new Windows 10 Xbox app, which brings the dashboard right onto your PC.

Referring to the app, Mike Ybarra had this to say:

We’ll soon be adding features monthly. #Windows10

The app is a little rough around the edges (as the beta tag should imply), but brings core Xbox functions to PC. A lot of this functionality is already present in the Xbox One Smartglass app for Windows 8.1, so it seems certain that the W10 app will integrate the features of Smartglass in the future.

Xbox Live already has the makings of a social network, with more functionality and interactivity it could feasibly compete with the big boys, at least in terms of features. Have you been using the Xbox app for W10?
